Glencoe Handfasting Ceremony
Prior to Hannah & Callum’s larger wedding celebration at Boreland Loch Tay, they wanted to celebrate their marriage with a quieter handfasting ceremony in Glencoe. They had moved up to Scotland a few years ago and love spending time in the Scottish Highlands together, so marking their marriage with a hand fasting ceremony amongst the hills felt like a perfect fit for them.
We travelled up to Glencoe on a Thursday afternoon in September and met at the Kingshouse Hotel, where Hannah & Callum were staying and planning a long weekend away after their ceremony. I was joined by Stevie from Journal Films, who was filming their ceremony in Glencoe and larger wedding celebration in October. Once they were both ready they met out by the River Etive, before we travelled to ralston cairn for their hand fasting ceremony. There had been a slight mix-up with the flowers, so Callum cut some heather from where we parked for Hannah to use as a small bouquet, the purple of the heather contrasting beautifully against Hannah’s dress from Swanky Rags - her Mum’s dress shop in Peterborough.
Their ceremony was held by Angela, who guided them through the hand fasting before we all stood back and Hannah & Callum read their personal vows to one another set against the backdrop of the Three Sisters of Glencoe. After their ceremony we took a few photos around the valley until the light finally faded and we left Hannah & Callum to enjoy the rest of their weekend in Glencoe. Here are a few of my favourite images, captured on digital and 35 mm film.
